These Dead Man books are a nice change of pace, and a refreshing break from longer novels. They are brief, clever, and have satisfying endings, unlike the majority of short stories and novellas. This was an entertaining diversion, and I will continue reading these and pretty much anything Lee Goldberg putts out. He may not write them, but he makes sure that the quality is there. I doubt that the man ever sleeps, he is so prolific.

Ring of Knives Dead Man Book 2 edition by James Daniels Lee Goldberg William Rabkin Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I find that I am addicted to reading this series one right after the other. It is very well written with engaging characters and a fantastic story line. I don't really like to give too much description on the book, but if I like it that is really good for me, and I figure for others too. I generally like to read a lot of Dean Koontz and Robin Cook. Lately I find myself branching out to other writers, and I haven't been disappointed at all with this series of books. Continuing on to book 3 of the Dead Man series. Love it!
Review written by Holly West

This second installment of the Dead Man series is a great start to Matt Cahill's journey in finding out what he is. The first, FACE OF EVIL, was mostly set-up, explaining how Cahill came to be what he is--I really consider the second, RING OF KNIVES, to be the first episode in which we see Cahill in action.

In it, Cahill is on a quest to meet Jesse Weston, a man he suspects is in the same situation as he is, hoping to learn something about himself. But when he arrives at Carthage, the mental institution where Jesse resides, Cahill learns that Jesse is no longer there and that the doctor who treated him has mysteriously disappeared as well.

RING OF KNIVES is an excellent novella--concise, well-written, atmospheric, with the right touches of gore, humor, and adventure. I'm off to read the third installment right now.
The Dead Man series are all fairly short stories, maybe an hour's read. They follow the same kind of story line.

Man wandering the country trying to deal with Mr. Dark, who seems to follow him and deal out misery to him and sometimes those around him.

One reviewer mentioned the gratuitous sex scenes. Yes, they exist. But, the genre almost demands them. if they bother you, they are readily skipped.

I got several of them for 99 cents each. I thought it was a pretty good deal. I enjoyed reading them, and that is why I would read this type of story.

Other reviewers have covered some of the plot lines, so I won't bother.
The Dead Man Ring of Knives, ISBN 9781612187617, e-book by James Daniels is another in the series Copyright by, I assume, Lee Goldberg & William Rabkin's Adventures in Television.
Matt Cahill, the protagonist, again finds himself in a series of situations where he must fight against tremendous odds as he attempts to rescue innocents from real malicious individuals as well as ghostly opponents. A book of novella length where the action is almost non-stop and the descriptions are sufficiently grisly to satisfy aficionados of tales of this nature. (See also my review of Blood Mesa.) Reviewed by John H. Manhold, award winning fiction/non-fiction author.
The second entry in The Dead Man series focuses more on the main character searching for answers and feels largely like a second episode in a television series. It's gritty, dark, almost frighteningly realistic. Unlike the first book this delved more into the search for identity and the darkness that may exist in everyone even the most heroic individuals. Like it's predecessor it's short, I finished them both in approximately 2 hours, but I kind of enjoy the episodic nature of the series since it prevents me from getting bogged down with a long adventure. This is a really cool, original mystery/horror series and if you're not reading yet you should.
I am enjoying the Dead Man series tremendously. This second book in the series is even better than the first. With the premise firmly established in FACE OF EVIL, the first Dead Man book, we can get on with the good stuff - the Dead Man adventures!

This one involves some wacky, creepy stuff and introduces depth into the world of Dead Man, along with some (possibly-recurring?) supporting characters. Our hero learns some more about himself, and about this weird gift/curse as well... though more questions may have been raised than answered.

An excellent entry in the series. Moving on to the third book, I am excited to see what the new author (every book is written by a different, excellent author) will bring to the table.
When I bought these books, they were on sale for 99 cents each so I bought the first 5 of them. I wasn't exactly sure what I was getting myself in for. The books are violent, I'm glad they aren't videos because I could not watch this as a movie. Our Hero arrives at an asylum looking for answers and things escalate quite fast. I think the violence in this one was a little more graphic and gruesome than in the other 5 books I read. It is a good story. I only give these books 3 stars even though they are good books for the most part, they're not a book in my opinion, they're a short story. These stories are great if you have an hour to kill, you're at the Dr.s office or just want to escape reality for a little while.
